For a couple years now I’ve had a vision of creating a Wind and Water inspired editorial shoot. But when I think of the ocean I often defer to quite a few different elements than that of a lake; seashells, starfish, palm trees, crystal blue waters, and coral to name a few. And here in Michigan, we don’t have access to any oceans unfortunately. But what we do have is some of the most picturesque shorelines literally surrounding the entire state (that’s 3,126 miles of Great Lakes shoreline and more fresh water coastline than any other state). When people see photos of the beaches we have here and especially the water up north, they are in awe of how crystal clear and lovely the environment is. It doesn’t always feel like home to me, but Michigan sure is a special state.

So with that being said, we took the shorelines of Michigan, the movement of wind and water, and a sophisticated color palette of blues, grays and ivories and made this happen. With quite the talented group of artists might I add! We aimed for simplicity with this creative endeavor and the stunning film images from Cory Weber illustrate that so beautifully. Our ‘models’ are an actual real life married couple who volunteered their time and entire day to come play with us! I try my best to always bring real life couples on board with editorials because the love between a real life couple is always so authentic and genuine, making it shine through in all portraits. I loved working with these two and the strength of their relationship is so evident in these pictures.

I also have to add this bouquet was one of my favorites to ever make (and I know I do say that a lot!) The blue delphinium I added in with the very soft hints of blush and tons of ivories and whites was perfect against that dusty blue beaded Adrianna Papell gown our bride wore. I wanted lots of texture and movement in the bouquet to tie in with the overarching editorial concept and I think it worked out just beautifully. The touch of navy in the ribbon streamers was a little unexpected but added a nice contrasting touch.
